Birdseed Markets Steady

PANAMA - Jul 27/18 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading little changed, helped by strength in outside markets.

Indications the U.S. 'get tough' strategy on trade might be yielding results helped lift grains and oilseeds during the past week. Grower confidence was helped by the promise of a $12 billion subsidy to help offset any negative impacts of retaliatory duties imposed on U.S. agricultural commodities by China and other countries.

While bringing smiles to the faces of farmers, it is unclear whether agricultural needs to be subsidized. While retaliatory duties make U.S. agricultural commodities more expensive in some destinations, world trade simply realigns and prices tend to incorporate the import duties as exportable surpluses from cheaper suppliers disappear.
