Saskatchewan Crops Hurrying Along
REGINA - Jul 12/18 - SNS -- Pulse crops in Saskatchewan were in generally good condition by the start of the week and mostly at a normal or above normal stage of development, judging from Saskatchewan Agriculture's latest crop progress report.
It noted, "Crops across the province are advancing nicely (with) 81% of the fall cereals, 77% of the spring cereals, 75% of the oilseeds and 79% of the pulse crops are at their normal stages of development for this time of year. The condition of the majority of crops ranges from fair to excellent.
"A week of wild weather has brought much-needed moisture to many areas of the province; however, strong winds and hail storms have caused severe damage to fields," the report said. "Provincially, topsoil moisture conditions on cropland are rated as 3% surplus, 59% adequate, 32% short and 6% very short."
