Oat Output Jumps One Third

WASHINGTON - Jul 12/18 - SNS -- The U.S. oat crop is expected to total 66.4 million bushels, up 34% from 2017, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.

Growers expect to harvest 1.01 million acres for grain or seed, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 29, 2018, but up 26% from last year. Based on conditions as of July 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 65.8 bushels per acre, up 4.1 bushels from 2017.

As of July 1, 82% of the oat acreage was headed, 1 percentage point behind last year's pace but 2 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. As of July 1, 73% of the crop was rated in good to excellent condition, compared with 53% at the same time last year.
