Birdseeds Skeptical of Area Report
PANAMA - Jun 29/18 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets are skeptical of Canada's seeded area estimates for canaryseed.
Land in the crop was pegged at 212,100 acres, down from 306,000 last year and the recent of 312,700 acres. If accurate, it is only the third time in the past quarter century that fewer than 300,000 were sown.
The decline was uniform in percentage terms for both regular and hairless canaryseed. Land in hairless was down 19% at 77,000 acres, while regular was down 18% at 135,100.
