Mustard Production Seen Rising

PANAMA - Jun 29/18 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets finished the week's trading little changed in seasonally light activity despite Statistics Canada's report that seeded area is much higher than intended.

According to the first seeded area estimate for the year, land in Canadian mustard seed totals 503,800 acres, compared to 385,000 last year and an intended 437,900 acres. By contrast, farmers in the United States reduced land in the crop from 103,000 to 91,500 acres.

Average yields would see production in Canada reach 195,000 metric tons (MT), up from 121,600 last year; while production in the United States could advance from 27,330 to 31,500 MT. Both country's could see higher average yields because if there is no negative change in moisture conditions.
