Saskatchewan Crops Generally Look Good

REGINA - Jun 28/18 - SNS -- Saskatchewan's pulse and specialty crops in relatively good shape, but conditions vary significantly every few kilometers,

Some grain buyers describe conditions like flipping a coin, with one farmer calling it right and another a short distance away making the wrong call.

The provincial agriculture department says most of crops are in good condition and at their normal stages of development for this time of year. It noted that many areas received rain showers during the past week, although amounts varied significantly.

Crops, hay and pasture -- particularly in southwestern and west-central Saskatchewan -- are being affected by the dry conditions. Hay yield is expected to be lower than average and pastures are expected to have significantly reduced carrying capacity going into the summer months.
