Chickpeas Hold Steady

PANAMA - Jun 8/18 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were little changed in relatively light trade, with spot and new crop prices holding at similar levels.

The latest monthly trade data shows that Canada and the United States are experiencing improved demand for their kabuli chickpeas, while exports of Australian desi type chickpeas are sharply lower.

Last year's below average yields for Australian chickpeas had been expected to be a fiercely bullish factor for prices across its 2017-18 marketing campaign. But, the loss of the Indian market has taken the wind out of the market.
