Lentil Markets Steady

PANAMA - Jun 1/18 - SNS -- International lentil markets were mainly unchanged on the week, with market relieved to see rainfall activity in Saskatchewan at week's end.

Seeding of the Canadian crop is virtually complete, with Saskatchewan Agriculture reporting 98% of the intended area was in the ground as of May 28, compared to 96% last year and the recent five year average of 91%.

Despite dry and hot weather during seeding, Saskatchewan Agriculture reckoned 11% of lentil fields were in excellent condition, 57% good, 28% fair and 4% poor. At this time last year, 12% of fields were rated as being in excellent condition, 69% good, 17% fair and 2% poor or very poor.
