Nervousness Returns to Peas

PANAMA - May 25/18 - SNS -- International field pea markets were left in a nervous mood by the latest efforts by the Indian government to limit imports.

While not targeting peas, the jump in imports duties for wheat from 20% to 30% was a powerful reminder the country will take whatever steps it deems necessary to limit price pressure in grower markets.

If the country increases minimum support prices (MSP) as much as it has indicated, to 150% of the actual average cost of production, pressure to support the MSP will increase.
