Seeding Surges in Saskatchewan

REGINA - May 17/18 - SNS -- Hot and dry weather allowed seeding to leap forward during the past week in Saskatchewan, with 35% of all crops now in the ground, compared to 30% by the middle of May last year and the recent five year average of 32% complete.

Planting of pulse crops is most advanced, with 57% of the intended lentil area now in the ground, along with 63% of pea fields and 54% of the province's chickpea area.

In Saskatchewan's southeastern region, seeding of all crops is how half complete. Lentil planting is most advanced at 76% complete, compared to 52% of the wheat crop, 58% of the durum, 39% of the canola, and 41% of the soybeans.
