Chickpeas Hold Firm Tone

PANAMA - May 11/18 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week as offers from exporters and processors remain in line with the short term needs of the market.

Seeding of this year's crop is underway in both Canada and the United States, with processors and exporters in those countries watching progress and concerned the delayed start could expose to developing plants to bad weather during critical phases such as flowering.

Saskatchewan Agriculture's latest crop progress report suggests 9% of this year's crop has been planted in that province, compared to 26% by the end of the first week of May last year and the recent average of 25% sown by that time.
