India Rumors Distress Peas

CHONGQING - Mar 30/18 - SNS -- Field pea markets ended the week's trading on an anxious note in the face of "strong rumors" India is considering a ban on pulse imports.

The rumor stemmed from a recent meeting between a group of domestic pulse processors and India's Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

They asked the minister to "terminate" import quotas for tur or pigeon pea, mung beans, and urad or black mapte. Tur imports are limited to two million metric tons (MT) per fiscal year, while combined imports of mung and black mapte cannot exceed three million.
