Mustard Expects General Area Expansion

PANAMA - Mar 30/18 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets were little changed on the week, with participants trying to interpret the implications of the USDA seeding intentions report on prospective mustard seed plantings in the United States.

Area had been expected to decrease. But, with farmers saying they intend to reduce land in major grains, oilseeds, and pulses, markets think some growers in the Minn-Dak region may divert land into mustard because of good prices and movement.

By the end of January, the United States had exported 23% of last year's mustard seed crop, compared to 12% the previous marketing year and 10% in 2015-16.
