WASHINGTON - Mar 29/18 - SNS -- Growers intend to plant 5.93 million acres of sorghum for all purposes in 2018, up 5% from last year, according to the USDA's seeding intentions report for 2018.
Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and South Dakota expect to plant more acres to sorghum in 2018.
Area planted to sorghum in Texas will be the second lowest planted acreage on record, if realized. As of March 18, Texas growers had planted 25% of their expected acreage, equal to last year but 7 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average.
