Record Indian Rabi Crops
PANAMA - Mar 3/18 - SNS -- Field pea markets were unaffected by forecasts India will harvest a record quantity of chickpeas and pulses across both last summer's kharif and the current rabi cropping season.
In its second estimate for 2017-18, India's agriculture department pegged total pulse production at 23.95 million metric tons (MT), up from 23.13 million in 2016-17.
Chickpea production was pegged at a record 11.1 million MT, versus 9.38 million last year, while the kharif season pigeon pea harvest was revised to 4.02 million MT, down from 4.87 million the previous year.
