Uneasy Note in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Feb 3/18 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week on an uncertain note against increased selling pressure in kabulis and rising pessimism about Indian demand.

Export asking prices for new crop product from both India and Mexico eased during the week, while expectations of rising North American output saw an increase in competitive price pressure from that origin.

India's decision to replace the 3% education surtax on import duties with a 10% social service tax boosted to the effective landed cost of desi and kabuli chickpeas from 30.9% to 33%.
