Nervousness In Chickpeas

PANAMA - Nov 10/17 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week's trading in a nervous mood after India increased the import duty on peas to 50% effective November 9. The duty applies to all product which had not cleared customs as of that date.

Worries India will take steps to impeded imports of other pulses is deepest in desi markets because the Indian subcontinent is the primary destination.

Small caliber kabuli chickpeas are moderately concerned because India accounts for between 10% and 20% of total Russian exports.
