Soybean Yield Forecast Sinks

WASHINGTON - Nov 9/17 - SNS -- Soybean production is forecast at a record 4.43 billion bushels, down less than 1% from October but up 3% from last year, according to the latest crop estimates from the USDA.

Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 49.5 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month but down 2.5 bushels from last year. Area for harvest in the United States is forecast at a record high 89.5 million acres, unchanged from last month.

The November objective yield data for the combined 11 major soybean-producing States (Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and South Dakota) indicate a lower pod count from the previous year. Compared with final counts for 2016, pod counts are down in 8 of the 11 published States. A decrease of more than 200 pods per 18 square feet from 2016's final pod count is expected in Illinois, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
