Agreement on Chickpea Yields

PANAMA - Oct 27/17 - SNS -- Updated yield estimates from provincial agriculture departments are almost identical to those in Statistics Canada's August production forecast.

In its final crop progress report, Saskatchewan Agriculture estimated this year's average yield at 1,123 pounds per acre pounds per acre, down from 1,159 pounds last year and well below the recent 10 year average of 1,265.

Crop reporters in the province think 78% of the crop will likely grade No 1 Canada and the balance No 2 Canada. Grades were not broken down by class.

Last year, an estimated 10% graded No 1 Canada, 36% No 2, 41% No 3 and 13% sample grade. In the previous 10 years, crop reporters in Saskatchewan reckon and average of 39% of the crop graded No 1 Canada, 38% No 2 Canada, 16% No 3 and 8% sample grade.
