Little Change in Field Peas

PANAMA - Oct 20/17 - SNS -- International field pea markets finished the week's trading mostly unchanged, but with a weaker undertone as export movement slows more quickly than normal.

Countries like the United States, France, Russia, Australia and the Ukraine continue to benefit from the fact that importers in India are not penalized if the goods are not fumigated with methyl bromide at the time of shipment. Canada's exemption ended on September 30, while their's ends December 31.

Importers in India are also thought to be rushing imports of peas, red lentils, and chickpeas out of fear that the government will end the exemption from import duties and/or impose import quotas. Those were imposed on pigeon peas, mung beans and black mapte earlier in the year.
