Estimated Pulse Yields Outdoing Forecasts

PANAMA - Oct 5/17 - SNS -- Better than expected yields for some crops suggests this year's field pea and lentil harvests could be bigger than initially forecast, while the chickpea and dry edible bean crops could be smaller.

Crop reporters in Saskatchewan indicate yields "remain about average overall," says the provincial agriculture department in its latest crop report, "although they vary greatly across the province depending on time of seeding and moisture received throughout the season.

"Some eastern and northern areas are reporting higher-than-average yields, thanks to timely rainfall. Yields in much of the southern and central regions were greatly affected by the extended period of hot and dry conditions this summer."
