Lentil Price Tone Weakens

PANAMA - Sep 24/17 - SNS -- International lentil markets ended the week on a softer note as markets adjust to better than expected yields in North America and softer than hoped demand.

At the same time, spreads between extra 3 Canada and No 2 Canada grade green lentils shrank because of the risk of originating lower grade new crop product.

For the second time in the past decade, over 90% of the crop is expected to grade No 2 Canada or better. Saskatchewan Agriculture estimates 57% of the crop is No 2 Canada and 37% No 1 Canada, compared to 55% being Extra 3 Canada or lower last season.
