Lentil Harvest Nearing Completion

PANAMA - Sep 10/17 - SNS -- Residual supplies of lentils in Canada were significantly higher than initially expected.

Heading into Statistics Canada's July 31 stocks in all positions on September 6. Heading into that report, markets expected ending stocks to come in around 283,000 metric tons (MT). Season ending inventories were pegged at 405,000 MT of all classes of lentils, suggesting the available supply will be at least 2.71 million MT, down from almost 3.34 million last season.

Stocks at the level should force a reduction in Canadian exports to under two million MT for the first time since the 2013-14 marketing campaign.
