Smaller Canadian Canaryseed Crop

PANAMA - Sep 1/17 - SNS -- Canadian canaryseed production will be down this year, believes Statistics Canada.

It estimates production in Saskatchewan will only total 117,000 metric tons (MT) from 255,000 acres; while unofficial estimate suggest another 5,000 MT should be grown in Manitoba.

Based on surveys of farmers during the last half of July, the federal government agency said yields in Saskatchewan will average 1,012 pounds per acre. By contrast, Saskatchewan Agriculture thinks yields are closer to 959 pounds per acre.
