Excellent Lentil Harvest Progress

PANAMA - Aug 19/17 - SNS -- Good progress with this year's harvest in both Canada and the United States has relieved opening season supply worries.

Initial yields in Saskatchewan, Alberta, North Dakota and Montana are below their recent averages, leaving some processors and exporters doubtful North American production will rise much above the recent five year average of 3.13 million metric tons (MT).

Combined seeded area for Canada and the United States dropped from 6.79 to 5.42 million acres this year. Green lentil plantings for the two countries were little changed from last year, with the result almost all the decline was borne by red lentils.
