Record Kharif Pulse Seeding Progress

NEW DELHI - Jul 28/17 - SNS -- Above average monsoon rainfall so far this season has encouraged India's farmers to seed a record area to pulses so far during the kharif planting season.

Area has pushed ahead of last year, reaching 11.488 million hectares through the end of July, compared to 11.035 million at this time last year and the recent five-year average of 8.245 million hectares.

July is the most important month for planting kharif season pulses in India. Normally, 58% of all pulse that will be sown go in the ground during July, with another 24% sown in August, 4% in September, and an average of just 1% planted in October.
