Yield Fears Trump Demand Concerns

PANAMA - Jul 23/17 - SNS -- International field pea markets finished the week on a firmer note despite negative demand fundamentals for the fall shipping period because of this year's record rabi season pulse harvest in India.

China is optimistic its purchases will continue trending upward through the coming marketing year, but the gains may not be large enough to offset expected declines in demand from India. Any recovery in that purchases will happen in 2018 if there is a significant drop in desi chickpeas plantings in the coming rabi season.

Some of the forecast reductions in demand could be offset by expected declines in average yields. While the harvest has already started in the United States, it is too early to estimate average yields for the country.
