Bulk Pea Exports Slowing

PANAMA - Jul 16/17 - SNS -- Bulk field pea shipments are slowing, though there remains enough inventory in Vancouver for another vessel before the end of the marketing year.

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports 500 MT of bulk peas were exported through reporting terminals and primary elevators between July 3 and July 9. That lifted season to date exports to 3,329,600 MT, compared to 2,355,100 MT during the same period in the previous marketing year.

Farmers delivered 6,900 MT of peas to primary elevators during the week. This lifts season to date deliveries by farmers to 3,875,100 MT, compared to 2,521,900 MT during the same period last season.

Elevators and terminals reported selling 2,400 MT of peas to domestic buyers during the week. This lifted season to date sales to 164,100 MT, compared to 173,100 during the same period last season.

There are 117,400 MT of commercial stocks of peas, including: 75,400 MT of field peas in primary elevators; 1,100 MT in process elevators; 39,300 MT at Vancouver; none at Churchill; none at Prince Rupert; 1,500 MT at Thunder Bay; and none in St. Lawrence ports. There are also 6,500 MT of peas in transit by rail to Canadian ports, compared to 8,300 MT the previous week.

For the field peas in primary elevators: 7,700 MT are located in Manitoba; 54,600 MT in Saskatchewan; 13,100 MT in Alberta; and 100 MT in British Columbia.

The CGC did not provide a breakdown of the grades of peas in terminal elevators.
