Underlying Strength In Chickpeas

PANAMA - Jul 16/17 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were unchanged to firmer in relatively light trading during the past week.

Worries about the yield potential of crops in Saskatchewan, southern Alberta and Montana supported prices for medium caliber kabuli chickpeas; while supply problems in Mexico are keeping large caliber markets strong.

Desi chickpea markets were generally easier on the week. India is both the world's largest producer and consumer of this class, with the result this year's record rabi season harvest has dampened medium term demand and price ideas among importers.
