Saskatchewan Crop Condition Trends Lower
REGINA - Jul 13/17 - SNS -- Hot and dry weather conditions over much of the southern half of Saskatchewan is having a negative impact on crops which are mainly grown in that region, judging from the latest crop progress report from Saskatchewan Agriculture.
Interestingly, while the conditions of soybean, chickpea, mustard and canaryseed fields declined significantly over the past two weeks, there was little overall change in field peas and lentils.
Over the past two weeks, the percentage of the lentil crop rated good to excellent inched up from 61% to 62%; while the proportion of dry field peas slipped from 69% to 66%. By contrast, the percentage of chickpea fields rated good to excellent plunged from 50% to just 6%.
