Smaller Barley Crop

WASHINGTON - Jul 12/17 - SNS -- U.S. barley production is forecast at 143 million bushels, down 28% from 2016, according to the latest USDA crop forecast.

Based on conditions as of July 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 73.5 bushels per acre, down 4.4 bushels from last year. Area harvested for grain or seed, at 1.95 million acres, is unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2017, but down 24% from 2016. When compared with last year, the largest yield decreases are expected in North Dakota and Washington due to dry conditions. A record high yield is forecast in Colorado.
