Weather Supports Chickpeas

PANAMA - Jul 8/17 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, hindered by limited stocks of large caliber product and worries about weather.

Medium caliber markets were also helped by worries about yield prospects for crops in both Canada and the United States because of drought like conditions in several areas.

Those areas in Alberta where most of the chickpeas are grown believe above normal temperatures could have a negative impact on potential yields; while in Saskatchewan crop reporters say topsoil moisture is short to very short in over 85% of the region where chickpeas are mainly grown. On the other hand Russia received beneficial showers during the past week.
