Moderate Gains in Dry Bean Seedings

PANAMA - Jul 2/17 - SNS -- North American dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on an easier note, reflecting the completion of seeding in most major production areas and seasonally light activity.

This was reflected in the U.S. spot index for beans which fell 2.3 points on the week to 135.9. Other pulse markets were generally easier. The Canadian pulse price index dropped 1.4 points to finish at 177.4, while the world pulse price index fell 8.3 points to close the week at 167.6.

Markets were also trying to digest the impact of this year's seeded area estimated. Land in dry beans in Canada advanced from 277,000 to 307,000 acres, while seedings in the United States advanced from 1.729 to 1.897 million acres.
