Little Change in Safflower Area

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/17 - SNS -- Area planted to safflower increased less than 1,000 acres from 2016, to 162,000 acres in 2017, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2017.

Despite the slight increase, this is the third lowest planted area for the Nation since records began in 1991. Area for harvest is forecast at 154,800 acres, up less than 1% from last year. Growers in California, the largest State in terms of planted area in 2016, planted 52,000 acres this year, a decline of 16% from last year.
