India Extends Fumigation Exemption

DELHI - Jun 30/17 - SNS -- India has extended the fumigation exemption for Canada, France and the United States for cargoes with a bill of lading dated up to December 31, 2017.

Under the exemption, cargoes can be fumigated with methyl bromide on arrival in India instead of at origin.

However, India's agriculture department has not finalized the relaxation on penalties for non compliant phytosanitary certificates. Therefore, until that changes, cargoes imported from Canada, Russia and France will be subject to a five times penalty for phytosanitary certificates which do not show that the cargo was fumigated at origin.
