Record Crops in India
PANAMA - May 10/17 - SNS -- India produced a record quantities of all categories of food grains across the 2016-17 kharif and rabi crop cycle, according to the country's third production estimate.
Total food grain is now estimated at 273.38 million metric tons (MT), up 8.76% from last year and 6.37% above the previous five year average.
Pulse output was pegged at 22.4 million MT, up 37.03% from the previous season's 16.35 million MT crop. In releasing the numbers the agriculture department increased last year's kharif harvest to 9.12 million MT and pegged the current rabi crop at 13.28 million.
