More Confection Less Oil Suns

PANAMA - Apr 1/17 - SNS -- Birdseeds ingredient markets somewhat surprised by the USDA's seeding intentions report released at week's end.

Heading into the report, markets expected land in oil type sunflower to drop, while the area intended for confection type would be unchanged to slightly higher. The oil type number was close to what expected, but the increase for confection was much higher than expected.

Land in both classes of sunflower is expected to drop 9% to 1.45 million acres. If realized, this will be the lowest planted area for the Nation since 1976.
