Softness in Lentils

PANAMA - Mar 18/17 - SNS -- Lentil markets exhibited a generally weaker undertone during the past week, with importers increasingly shifting purchases to a hand to mouth basis.

Though Canadian area is expected to decline this year, fears about demand from India has weakened new crop asking prices, signalling buyers to wait.

Given market conditions in India and fears about monsoon rainfall patterns, pulse seedings during the coming kharif season are expected to decline. The most important pulse grown is pigeon pea, for which green lentils are sometimes used as a substitute.
