Major U.S. Lentil Movement

PANAMA - Jan 16/17 - SNS -- In its final production estimate for 2016, the USDA said lentil production in the U.S. jumped 141% to a record hit 575,388 metric tons (MT).

Record yields in parts of the growing area combined with a near doubling of seeded area to 933,000 acres to generate the massive increase in output.

In Montana, the crop was 94% planted by May 29 and reached 97% emergence by June 12. Harvest began in mid-July and was 95% complete by September 11.
