Chickpea Market Supported
PANAMA - Oct 28/16 - SNS -- Chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week as available supplies on world markets continue to lag ongoing demand.
This affected both desi and kabuli type chickpeas, with desi type helped by tight stocks in the hands of both exporters and importers.
Some of the demand for desi type chickpeas is being filled by small caliber kabuli type from Russia and other origins. Canada had hoped to take advantage of that demand, but the failure of farmers to harvest 75% of this year's crop has changed market fundamentals in that country.
