Lower Lentil Crops Esti,mates Welcomed

PANAMA - Aug 20/16 - SNS -- Many processors and exporters found support in unofficial yield estimates released by Saskatchewan Agriculture during the past week.

Combined with growing consensus around quality, the report helped firm green lentil markets, though red lentils maintained a more sideways tone.

The provincial agriculture department thinks the average yield of all classes of lentils grown in the province is around 1,250 pounds per acre, down from 1,332 last year and well below the recent five year average of 1,449 pounds.
