Weather Market Firmness in Lentils

PANAMA - Aug 14/16 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading on a firm note against growing doubts about the status of crops in Canada.

Limited harvest progress has left the debate about quality and yields open. This has resulted in estimates that between 20% and 25% of the potential crop has been lost, while as much as half is in serious difficulty unless the growing region receives mainly warm and dry weather until the harvest is complete.

The current debate has echoes of 2010. By the middle of August in 2010 only 3% of the lentil crop had been harvested. As the past week got underway, just 1% of the crop was in the bin, with markets doubting that much progress was made during the past week.
