Lentil Stocks in Elevators Up

PANAMA - Aug 9/16 - SNS -- Lentils are starting the 2016-17 with more stocks on hand in the commercial handling system than at this time last year, according to the season ending report from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC).

Stocks in licensed elevators and terminals finished the year up a third over at 32,200 metric tons (MT). The total does not include lentils in processing plants or farms, but points to an ending stock figure over 100,000 MT.

The first reports from the CGC for the 2016-17 marketing year will provide some clues about onfarm stocks because farmers have not yet harvested significant quantities of lentils. Heavy rain events have delayed harvest activity in many parts of Saskatchewan and raised doubts about this year's quality and yields.
