Chickpea Plantings Controversy

PANAMA - Apr 30/16 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, with demand continuing to outpace available supplies.

North American seeding intentions remain a source of controversy in markets, with many traders believing farmers will plant much more than intended.

It is important to remember that seeding intentions are almost never the same as planted acres. Intentions should be viewed as an effort by farmers to force markets to reveal its net position and the actual value of the crop. That response will go a long way to determining what is actually planted.
