Myanmar 2015 Pulse Exports Jump

WASHINGTON - Mar 3/16 - SNS -- Spurred by strong demand from India, pulse exports from Myanmar jumped 25% in 2015 to 1.54 million metric tons (MT).

Commenting on the situation, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country noted that "strong export demand resulted in higher domestic prices for all beans, especially Mapte in 2015. Prices for Matpe reached a record high in November 2015 when domestic supplies declined and demand for Matpe seeds increased."

According to Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce, roughly 80% of Myanmar's total bean and pulse exports in 2015 were shipped to India. Black Matpe, Green Mung and Toor Whole beans accounted for 80% of the varieties exported.^T
