Peas Ease Over New Crop Thoughts

PANAMA - May 19/23 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week's trading on an easier note, reflecting the ongoing shift in market attention from spot to new crop shipping positions.

With North American seeding now well underway and thoughts there could be limited quantities of new crop peas available in August, with the bulk entering markets in September, shipping times are starting to become factor in the thinking of some end users.

Provincial agriculture departments reported 61% of the Canadian pea crop was in the ground as the week got underway, while 46% of the U.S. crop had been planted by the middle of May.
