Lentils Ease Despite Strong Outlook

PANAMA - Sep 24/21 - SNS -- Global lentil markets continued to ease during the past week as markets worry about short term demand prospects relative to available supplies.

The global supply and demand picture for lentils is positive, with production down at least 230,000 metric tons (MT) from last year. Interestingly, net exporting countries face a larger reduction relative to last year than net importing countries which grow lentils.

The net result is global trade in lentils will decline at least 450,000 MT, while residual stocks of lentils drop from 510,000 to 368,000 MT, with a large part of the residual stocks residing in India's domestic market.
