Chickpeas Largely Unchanged
PANAMA - Sep 19/21 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were little changed in relatively light trading conditions during the past week.
Markets were not surprised by the Statistics Canada production estimate. Based on satellite and agroclimatic data, the harvest was pegged at 63,900 metric tons (MT) down from 214,400 last year.
It is worth noting that the official estimate foresees an average yield of 783 pounds per seeded acre in Saskatchewan. The provincial agriculture department is slightly more optimistic, with data from crop reporters suggesting the average will be closer to 797 pounds.
