Crop Watching Limits Mustard Movement

PANAMA - Jun 4/21 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets were little changed on the week, with old and new crop values holding relatively steady over worries about seeded area and crop development.

Seeding of the Canadian crop is in its final stages. The first crop quality assessments indicate 60% of planted fields started the week in good conditions, while the remaining 40% was rated fair. Conditions ranged from 93% good in southeastern Saskatchewan to 60% in the southeast and southwest to just 31% in east central crop districts.

Initial emergence has been good, but one or more good soaking rains is needed to ensure crops develop normally. Current forecasts for the coming week see temperatures across much of the province in the mid-20s with a mix of could and sun. Some areas could receive showers if forecasters are correct.
