WASHINGTON - Jun 2/21 - SNS -- Planting of this year's field pea crop is entering its final stages in the United States, with around 84% of the crop now in the ground, similar to last year but ahead of the recent five year average of 78%.
Soil moisture conditions across the growing area remain mixed, with parts of North Dakota continuing to suffer from drought like conditions, though some relief was received in Montana and the U.S. Pacific northwest from rainfall events during the past week.
North Dakota topsoil moisture supplies are currently rated 44% very short, 29% short, 25% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies are rated 50% very short, 26% short, 23% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Data from states reporting crop conditions suggest as much as 67% of the planted area is in good condition, while 43% is rated fair. There are no crop condition reports for peas available from North Dakota, but crop reporters in Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington are providing estimates.
